Laura & Nora, Founders of Our Food Stories

A collaboration between Nora Eisermann and Laura Muthesius, Our Food Stories, is an online gem of gorgeous food styling and delicious gluten-free recipes made with ingredients sourced from the founders own garden.

Nora, a food stylist and Laura, a professional photographer share their photography tips and reminds us that patience is every entrepreneur best virtue.

How did you two meet  and how did you decide to work together?

We met during a film project of a friend 4 years ago, and immediately liked each other.

We decided to write this blog while Laura was feeling really bad due to her gluten- and histamine-intolerance. We started to cook every day together and while we were looking for recipes we realized, that there were not a lot of recipes, that are low on histamine and glutenfree. This was how “our food stories” were born in summer 2013.

Now things have changed a bit – Laura is feeling much better already and it´s even possible for her to eat things again, which are not low on histamine.

Anyways, all our recipes are gluten free and from time to time you will still find some recipes that are low on histamine as well.

How did you get into food styling and photography ?

Laura studied photography and Nora actually studied fashion design but always was into styling as well. When we started concentrating on food-photography Nora got into food-styling and loves it.

What was your first freelance project and how did you get it?

We got our first projects through the blog. It’s a great medium to reach people.

What is one accomplishment you are most proud of?

We are proud that we learned to be patient. Not an easy task.

How do you come up with the recipe and how long does it take from the idea until the final published article?

Usually one of us comes up with a certain idea  for a recipe and then we are thinking about the details together. Nora always bakes / cooks the recipes while Laura is doing the photography and editing the pictures. We usually do the styling together, but Nora does most of that part.

What was the best life & business advice someone has ever given to you and why does it resonates with you now?

It sounds so easy, but definitely to enjoy every moment, and to focus  on the present and not on the past or future.

What are three things you learned while doing your blog?

Patience, Passion and Constancy

You have gathered quite a following on Instagram, what are your three tips for growing a following on social media?

There are no tips or rules, you should just love to work with this medium and use it daily.

What is your tip for great food photography?

The most important thing is good light. Everyone prefers different light situations, but we always shoot with natural light, when it’s possible.

What are your 3 favorite websites, blogs and apps ?

We really like Instagram but lately we also got into snapchat.

Our favorite website is the one of the very talented photographer Ezgi Polat.

There are so many blogs that we love, here just a few:

Call me Cupcake, Foodbandits and Hummingbird High

What is your daily routine and what are your best productivity tricks to get things done ?

We don´t have a daily routine, but we try to get as much work done in the morning hours. During the daytime / afternoon we usually shoot until the light is gone.

If you could have dinner with three people who would it be, what would you talk about and what would you eat?

We would love to have a big gathering with other foodies and friends and share good stories and enjoy the time together. We would probably make a big cake, as we are into baking cakes.
