Founded by Renyung Ho and Yvonne Suñer, MATTER is the new social business to follow.
Born with the mission to inspire consumers to value provenance by knowing where and by whom their clothes are made the young brand champion alternative production models and help textile artisans expand their economic opportunities.
Sourcing heritage prints and styles while reinterpreting them for the modern nomad their unique design seamlessly blend style and comfort, with a main focus on easy fit and easy care. The pants have no buttons and their flexibility means there are only two sizes adapting to every body type. Made by and for the new generation of travellers they also don’t need handwash and are easy to wear and clean.
By documenting every step of their attire’s journey; from being dyed and woodblock-printed in Jaipur, stitched and finished in New Delhi and woven in Bihar on hand-looms, MATTER challenge the fast fashion model and innovate the business by working with an hybrid supply chain model. The artisan members develop unique, heritage-based fabrics that form the limited edition raw material of the pants collection while the garments are produced and finished by a fair factory that has expertise in garment construction.
The company’s first collection is inspired by traditional Asian silhouettes, like the dhoti and the harem, and the cropped wide leg. Other designs include more modern designs such as hitched hikers, sailor shorts, and Sunday overalls. We can’t wait to see the brand and the collection grow.
